"What Are Ayurvedic Remedies, And How Can They Help Me Be More Healthy?"

"Ayurvedic Remedies are thought to be the oldest medical system known, being developed in India over 5000 years ago, and are the Medicine Of The Gods according to Hindu Mythology"

The practice of Ayurvedic remedies today are not so much a religion, but really more of a way of life, and each person is viewed as an individual, with a unique mind and body constitution, and a set of life circumstances; in other words a complete and holistic science of healthy balanced living

These factors are all considered in determining whether natural healing remedies should be taken, or changing your every day lifestyle, to aid any healing and promoting longevity.

"Ayurveda is based on the belief that the natural state of the body is one of balance, and we become ill when this balance is disturbed with specific conditions or symptoms, indicating  an  actual  disease or  imbalance".

Ayurvedic remedies emphasize the strengthening and purification of the whole person, whereas conventional medicine focuses on a set of symptoms and remedies, or on a particular part of the body. In the United States, there are currently two adaptations of classical Ayurvedic medical remedies being practiced.

Maharishi Ayur Veda started during the past decade by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Hindu swami, probably best known for making transcendental meditation popular, and most of the Ayurvedic remedies that are studied and published are on this type, which concentrates on the consciousness and meditation as key remedies in health and healing.

Dr. Deepak Chopra a western trained endocrinologist, recently made the more traditional type of Ayurvedic remedies popular, placing more emphasis on Yoga, breathing, and Massage Therapy, in an attempt to regain balance but still advocating meditation.

Ayurveda is Sanskrit for the knowledge of life, which defines the trinity of life as, Mind Body and Spiritual Awareness; this concept is often neglected with western medicine or Natural Health Remedies, where our thoughts and feelings are often separate from actual illness of the body.

"It is believed that all life is based on an underlying force or vital energy called prana, which centres on various energy points in the body called chakras".

Ayurvedic Philosophy states that every living thing in the universe is made up of five key elements, and in humans these elements correspond to the five senses: Earth or Prithvi = Smell, Water or Apa = Taste, Fire or Tejas = Sight, Air or Vayu = Touch, and Space or Akash = Hearing, and according to Ayurvedic teachings, these five elements constitute the three primary life forces or what are called Doshas.

The three Doshas, called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, are found in every cell in every human being, and in a unique combination, and when they are combined is called a Tridosha.

The aim of Ayurvedic Remedies is to simply achieve and maintain good health, by reaching a state of balance amongst the three Doshas, which govern all of the bodily functions.

For preventing disease, Ayurvedic Remedies use a regimen called Panchakarma to cleanse and rejuvenate the body, mind and consciousness, and as all physical manifestations of disease result from imbalances in the Doshas, various foods, remedies, and emotions, either stabilize or disturb this balance.

Ayurvedic evaluation of the three Doshas is primarily completed by what is called Nadi Vigyan, which is a detailed and systematic Ayurvedic technique of Pulse Diagnosis, together with a full medical examination of the Tongue, Voice, Eyes, Skin, Urine, Stools, and Overall General Appearance.
