Canine Health
A canine is very much part of your family, occupying an important part of your heart as their owner, and like any other family member, a dogs health is your ultimate responsibility.
Some canine health problems are serious in nature, and can be avoided with regular checkups by your local friendly vet, who will advise you of the preventions and cures for many of them, but common ailments such as mites, ticks, skin problems, blockages, ect, can be relatively easily handled, with the help of Homeopathic natural health remedies.
A major threat in canine health is heart disease, this either being acquired over its life, or congenital in nature; heart disease in a canine occurs mainly when normal blood flow is restricted, when the heart valves do not close properly, or the muscular walls of the dog’s heart are thinned and weakened, this then causing difficulty in breathing even while at rest, fainting, a lethargy for exercise, loss of appetite, and weight loss are indicative of an impending heart situation.

The greatest single threat to the health of the canine population all over the world is from the highly contagious disease caused by the canine distemper virus.
Puppies and younger dogs are at a higher risk in contracting the distemper virus, and although many that survive a natural infection develop enough immunity to the virus, the safest protection is vaccination. |

Some of the health problems that are caused by viral or bacterial infections are;
- Canine Parvovirus
- Canine Bordetellosis (Kennel Cough)
- Canine Parainfluenza
- Canine Leptospirosis
These are mainly spread through contact, faecal waste, and nasal secretions of infected animals.
All the health conditions mentioned above are serious in nature, and can prove fatal if not treated in time, but if abnormal health symptoms persist like,
- Loss of appetite
- Unwillingness to exercise
- Difficulty in breathing even whilst resting
- Fainting
- Extensive coughing
- Vomiting
- Squinting
- Congestion or discharges from the eyes
- Diarrhoea
An immediate visit to the vets is absolutely essential, let’s face it, if you had any of these symptoms you would be at a Doctor in an instant. |

Heartworm disease is not specific to any breed, and is caused by mosquito bites, and can attack even if the dog is mainly indoors most of the times, because the female mosquito, which is responsible for the transmission of heartworm, is very tiny and can slip through cracks in windows and doors, and if not treated in time, heartworm disease can sometimes be fatal.
Heartworm disease can easily spread as many people travel with their dogs,; indeed many States insist upon a health certificate from a qualified vet, and whilst on returning, owners should get their canine re-examined just to ensure that no parasites, external or internal, were picked up whilst travelling.
Heartworm, hookworm, and roundworm are internal parasites, whereas fleas and ticks are external.
Some times dog owners indulge in over feeding; under the mistaken belief that their dog is hungry, even a light diet can lead to obesity if the calorie intake is more than recommended, much the same as humans really.
Obesity can directly cause liver and heart conditions, diabetes, arthritis, skin disorders and cancer, exposing its health to a much higher risk.
Diet plays an important role in liver health, and is one of the major reasons behind many diseases in cats, including the feline liver disease; so instead of waiting for symptoms of liver disease to surface, it is highly recommended that you be proactive, and feed your canine with a balanced and nutritional diet to maintain its health.
